Ascensor Artillería
Best time to visit
Early morning or late evening, because then there are no queues and the lighting is best for photos. The midday sun can make the small waiting room very hot.
Budget tips
One ride costs about 300 CLP (0.30 EUR), which is cheaper than most city buses. If you plan to ride multiple times, buy a round-trip ticket. It is a bit more affordable.

About
Quick facts: Since 1883, the world's oldest working cable car has been carrying passengers between Artilleria Street and Cerro Artilleria in Liguria. It makes over 80 trips every day, rising 175 meters in just 73 seconds.
Highlights: The funicular's old wooden carriages still retain their original Victorian interior with brass handrails and a hand stove. The older carriage moves up as if conditioned, while the other descends, and they pass each other only in the widened middle section.
Insider tips
- Sit in the cafe next to the lower station and watch the cable cars move. It is a great photo opportunity.
- Walk up along the side streets instead and only ride down, as you will see more of the city's graffiti art that way.
- Bring some small change. Local vendors occasionally offer freshly squeezed orange juice in the waiting room.
- Keep your camera ready already in the lower waiting room. Local kids often do tricks around the cable cars.
